In short, a technopark is a technology park providing the infrastructure and support facilities for high-technology industries to start and operate.

Definition of Technopark

While the Technopark (technopoly) concept is mainly used in France, these entities are referred to as “Research Park” in the United States, as “Science Park” in the UK, and as “Science City” or “Technology City” in the Far East.

In Kerala, we have a technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. It was established on 18th November 1990 by the Government of Kerala.

Technopark is the biggest IT park in India when it comes to the area that has been developed. In 2015, it had 10 million sq. ft. (930 thousand m2) of built-up space and housed over 400 companies, with a workforce of more than 56,000 professionals. 

During the financial year 2016-17, the technopark recorded IT exports of *5,000 crores.

  • Business introduction: Technopark discovers prospective and tech-forward businesses and startup support. It enables technology transfer and commercialization of transferred technologies. Besides, it secures high-tech enterprises.
  • Technology innovation: Technopark promotes innovative technology development through joint study and research with industry, academia, and research institutes. It rejuvenates technology transfer and transactions. It provides education and training on new technologies.
  • Strengthening cooperation: Technopark strengthens cooperation ties of related parties by forming local networks. It establishes an organic cooperation network for the local industry with the active cooperation of academia, laboratories, government, and related organizations in the region.
  • Business incubation: Technopark renders the full range complex of services for business incubation. The services include consulting, coaching, assistance setting up the core business and managerial processes, networking, etc.
